Because they won't convert all their marketshare to premium parts, and by giving away 64-bit "for free" they will hurt ASPs on the premium parts?

All I know is that there are a few people claiming to be "certain" about the Prescott family AMD64-compatibility thing.

Do you think it's possible they are making a HT-based Barton? This idea sounds crazy, but if they can make a chip with extra-small die, it makes sense. AMD may feel very desperate in losing marketshare on low end. The whole P4 line will be there, making this market very tough.
