When a company has failed to bring a product to market for 30 years, a good defensive strategy is to play the "paradigm shift/chosen few" card. It goes something like this.

"A paradigm shift is happening, but only a very special few people will be able to recognize this shift. These special chosen few have foresight that 99.9% of the population doesn't, for they can see what a special technology this is, even if the rest of the world thinks it's a lost cause and industry analysts don't even deem it worthy of coverage. These believers will prosper mightily and be rewarded, because only they can see what those foolish others cannot, which doesn't just make them smart, it will make them rich. The paradigm shift is coming. Believe. Just for a little bit longer. Believe. Believe. Believe."
