It does vary... most folks refer to API (American Petroleum Institute) Gravity ratings. It will range from a high of about 38 or so for the Chalk down to about 20 for the Nacatoch. Chalk oil is a beautiful golden color, clear and pretty, very light, highly flammable. Smoking around it is a good way to get blown up. By contrast, you can pitch a match into Nacatoch oil and it will just go out.
