Qcom buying IDCC as part of a negotiation with NOk was something I originally thought was a possibility, but I no longer believe that is an option. Instead what I do think is a possibility is Nok telling Qcom that they will agree to the normal 5% rate, but then Qcom has to deal with the IDCC situation out of their own pocket and that Qcom will have to indemnify Nok as a protection against litigation from IDCC. That way it is up to Qcom to negotiate with IDCC or screw IDCC and pay the legal bills. This is one way for Nok to justify the 5% royalty they will be paying while never having to worry about IDCC again and for Qcom to say to its investors that they can still demand and get the 5% royalty. Both win in this case, well at first. I don't seet this happening either, but I guess it is a possibility.
