I'm probably one of the few that love this idea of the automatic runner. Extra inning game that go 13-14-15 inning or even more destroy bullpens and in an era of bullpen even starting games (We can all wish a day where we went back to the starting pitcher going 7 or 8 or even 9 innings, but those days are over.) So sicne we spend these games in the bullpen, we have to be more protective of such bullpens otherwise the sport would be unwatchable. I don't think we need 18 inning game to harm a season, sure they could be classic kind of games, but we are looking for the health of the bullpen over 162 not just what looks a litte better over a game, because of the overall health of the sport. We can't be blowing out bullpens all over the league, when the games are played in the bullpens. Hence why the rule makes sense to be permananet. All is just my opinion, and I could always be worng though.
