The same way the Yankees are responsible for Gary Sanchez's "emotional baggage".

Francisco Marquez, the agent for former Yankee Gary Sanchez, talked up the catcher to The Athletic during the Winter Meetings on Tuesday — and shaded Sanchez’s former team in the process.

“The most important aspect of the 2022 season was that at the end of the season Gary was able to finally and completely shake off the emotional baggage he had acquired during his previous two seasons with the Yankees,” Marquez said. “Whoever gets Gary this offseason will benefit from the rebirth of the Kraken.”

No doubt he had a bad year, but if I recall the events of last season, there was a sweet CASHman set up involving the timing of Chapman not showing up to practice vs the claim that Chapman hadn't been told he was getting axed for the post season roster.
No doubt Chapman that dumping Chapman from the post season was the right move, but the clear implication by Yanks management was that Chapman"s decision to skip the team's training session led directly to that decision. I simply make the point that the Yanks fabricated a story that didn't hold true, giving them the chance to smear a guy that had no connection to their future.

"Wow"???!!!! Just check in with Jeter and Judge for a bit of a reminder of how the Yanks GM can treat people who might just show him up a tad when there's a disagreement.

Chapman hurt himself by getting the tattoo during the season. That was just plain wrong and stupid. Then he was in FL rehabbing and missed the workout in NY I believe. I'm not sure what happened there,

In any event I doubt the Yankees were going to resign him. Too bad it ended that way.
