And your point? The bigger question is why others (such as Scottrade & Schwab) have no restrictions now (or never had any). See my earlier post below:

Design, it's odd that they had that "restriction" on for a finite period of time. It does suggest that they accomplished whatever it was that they wanted to do, such as covering a short position. Otherwise, if there had been a bonafide underlying concern, the restriction would have remained in place. I think Etrade just has a larger short position they are trying to cover before details of the JV are announced.
