Shorting only benefits the ill-intent. It allows for a coordinated network to sell without any investment.

No one should be allowed to sell something they don't own... as it favors the corrupt.

The system can be rigged in either direction. All it takes is money and some willing participants. As we see from the many SEC enforcement actions if there is money to be made both large and small will bend or ignore the rules.

Does anyone think that AVXL 117 million share day was a "normal" market occurrence? Was there any illegal activity involved? Who knows? Regulators weren't interested.
