Almost forgot; The IRS taxes you for taking all the risks, as they still get their "cream off the top." Their cut.....regardless of the risks you take. I realize ROTH accounts help, but it has it's limitations, the IRS doesn't want to miss out on their cut, that's why they limit you on the amount you can set aside.
Did I mention Required Minimum Distributions (RMD's)? The IRS wants it's piece of flesh. You can't die and leave your children an inheritance. Of course your estate is taxed as well?

But isn’t all that related to tax laws passed by Congress? They are just executing (oops maybe wrong word Ha) those laws. As far as not getting customer service from them, they have been crippled by not enough funding, an example of which just happened the other day when funds were stripped from the budget for them.

Nuke, I have a good friend of that’s a mother of 4 and living on $26k income per year in Ca. She filed her taxes in February 2022. Month after month passed without getting her return and no word from the IRS. She wondered what was wrong but she couldn’t contact anyone to get answers. The only thing she could do is go online to see if taxes had been received which they had. This mother relies on her tax return to manage her annual budget. There was no explanation from the IRS and no way to contact anyone at the IRS to find out why her tax return was being delayed or if there was an issue with her filing that needed correction. She just received her tax return in November. 9 months after filing returns. The same identical thing happened to her the year prior without explanation. I think it’s morally corrupt and unacceptable, if not criminal.

Like so many things absolutes are not accurate.

I was on the phone with the IRS TODAY after a 30 min wait, which they estimated before I went on "elevator music" mode. And the wait was about 28 min. I spoke with a lady who was very helpful and put me on hold for 5 minutes 4 times while she researched my issues. Gave me a complete and thorough answer. Very satisfied here.

Nuke, all of your issues with the IRS are pretty much driven by Congress.

And Congress has also made the tax code so expansive and convoluted, that it takes armies of people to enforce it.
