Great job on getting them into a shelter!
And locking your door for awhile is just common sense right now.

I won't say that I'll never get that feeling again from the pit of my heart but at least I'll know what to do next time.

That's what I try to do. If i get too much push-back- I try to find someone over their pay grade to push back harder. You'll meet some amazing people along the way.
