In response to a motion made by the attorneys for Ms. Edwards after the conviction but before the sentencing, the US Attorney's Office included an "offhand" statement in its response that Mr. Edwards himself was the subject of a continuing SEC investigation involving stock fraud. I'm sure the judge had an inkling about Mr. Edwards long before he wrote the sappy letter (at least he's loyal)!
Very, very high priced legal talent was used to try and keep Ms. Edwards out of prison after the conviction. The allegations were that the stress of prison would make Ms. Edwards go nuts. Or, make her start talking (in Chinese), maybe??
NASD has no jurisdiction over the person it refers to as JE in the NevWest complaint. It's complaint is not against Edwards. NASD only can, and is, going after NevWest and its principal brokers. ... eom
