Once again we learn of a problem we didn’t even know existed.
The question I have is whether this acquisition is in order to fix an ongoing problem that has delayed the inclusion of their polymer in the PDKs of the foundries they have been working with, or not. Im agnostic on this but it does sound that way and we need clarity on the timing of PDK completion now more than ever.
What is NOT said may be critical here. The PR does not say that the new process purchased has been deployed by Lightwave so far, with successful results. The PR doesn't say anything about what Lightwave has done or is currently doing with the foundries...only that the tech is required by them for their PDKs..so are they using it, testing it? Or is all of that in the future?
It also doesn't say whether the PDKs expected by year end are delayed because this low-temperature requirement applies to the PDK expected. It also doesn't provide any timing. Everything is worded ambiguously, which is always the case, so we are unable (agnostic) to determine where Lightwave is at in the process.
It appears to be all forward-looking: Is it additive only, or is it holding up the process?
While I'm agnostic on where the tech stands, knowing the history of Lightwave always surprising investors with an announcement of something that sounds great but that nobody knew was needed or even was on the horizon, I suspect this is Dr Lebby's way of preparing us for a pushback in all the timelines by another 6-9 months as the mountain they are climbing turns out to be a lot higher than we thought.
Sorry, but that's really how I see this..I welcome any info or reasoning that might change my view.
