Broker margin requirements are imposed on both retail and institutional investors (including hedge funds), and subject to change for both, just so everyone is clear. Retail is not singled out. And the recourse is the same for both: either some of the position is sold, or more collateral is provided (for retail it means depositing cash in your account, for institutional it usually means pledging more treasuries).
