What metric(s) are ALL of the Brokers using to adjust the margin to these levels? All at the same time? The stock price making a four-month high on just above average volume?

I do have another theory.

Not totally correct. There is Reg T that governs margin requirements. That said, a brokerage firm can always be more restrictive then Reg T, but not more lenient.
