#202149 RE: rocketeer357 #202148

I think you would be surprised, because I think numerous teams would trade for him (Whether you resign him you are getting 2 1/2 year of control). He is a 30-35 million a year player (Probably 35 (and 35X15=525 million). it really is that simple and at his age 15 year isn't unrealistic considering he is like 22-23. Probably if anything Soto could probably get more once he hits Free agency, with being on a competitve team, which the nats are not right now, and won't be anytime soon, In fact I think the best thing for the nats is to trade him, because they are not gonna win for 5-7 years unless they spend like crazy, and by then you wasted alot of soto's best years. Plus I heard the contract was very backloaded which soto didn't like. Plus the nats are to be sold, so who knows whether the new ownership will be committed to winning.

I actually think this is a smart move by Soto. As I said he will get the money. And right now the nats are the worst team in the league or pretty close even with him. Furthermore they are selling and with new ownership, you have to wonder will they be committed to winning. I think often times athletes take the money first than start complaining that they don't want to be there. If you don't want to be there, than why sign, wait your time and go play for a winner, nats won't be anytime soon.

As any team should make a play for him, you get 2 1/2 years of control. He is one of the better hitter. Signing Mike trout to a huge deal is a bad move, what in the world. I know it is hard for fans of small market teams to understand this, but you best players get/deserve big long-term contracts in my opinion.

Time will tell, but I like that Soto said heck no. He looked at this team, and they basically decided to be uncompetitive when they let trea turner go last year that was the sign (He got very upset last year when they made that trade), they didn't want to be competitive at least in the short-term in my opinion. And baseball careers have to focus on the short-term, they might be good 5-10 years from now, but that is most of soto best years rotting away, why in the world to you thing he leads the world in walks this year, because nobody will pitch to him in my opinion.
