Lack of specialization in PE is not an issue as a lot of it has to be taught or learned once somebody's career start in that portion of the industry. That's why a lot of CheE's CivilE and ME's are hired in industry. DrillingE has to be taught in house as an example and it would be a six months program before somebody goes solo on a rig. If you are drilling offshore wells, it will take much more training and supervision both in classrooms/simulators and hands on. Fracking classes are taught by service providers like HAL and SLB. PE as a major will continue to fade away or become Earth Science majors.
