Yes with natural gas and oil being harder to come by, due in part to corrosion, coal is used. Too bad geothermal investment has been paltry. Geothermal = Heat and one of the cleanest baseline power generation methods. Ironically its the drilling methods used in oil/gas extraction that help make geothermal more cost effective.
Fixed bed nuclear needs more investment/ R&D as its another clean power method with the added benefit of producing water.
