VERY true. 8% inflation adjusted paid by the federal gov't which I always think of as AAAA S&P credit rating and largely immune from civil judgments.

Yep. That's what I did!! As a single dude, my SS is about $800/mo more than my expenses, before any traveling/excess entertainment...my major expense besides food and utilities is RE taxes and homeowner's insurance (it went up ~100%, as I had a house fire)--house is now worth ~$200k more than before (needed refreshing) and probably at least $100k above where it would be if it hadn't been redone--to current standards... it was upgraded in many ways. And is worth 12x what I paid for it in 1985.
