Donaldson In my opinion is a better player than Gio even at this point in his career, so I disagree with that. But I don't think he is the best guy for the clubhose, and I'm putting it mildly. I thought the trade was a mistake with minnesota, and I still do believe that, because I believe in building a good clubhouse. Although Donaldson will have his chance to prove us wrong, despite not being very likeable and I'm putting it mildly, Because his hitting has picked up, and grades well on defense. His 1.7 WAR right now is excellent at this point in the season. Having said all of that he is a headache, and I think sometimes WAR likes or dislikes players too much, in this case I think his war is overstating his results.
Where A guy like Alonso is at a 1.1 war, and if we ask which player we would want, and ignore all of the following personalities, Money, age , etc. We would all pick Alonso and it wouldn't even be close. Alonso number drop because of his defense, which to fair if you watch him everyday, he is not great there, but it is grading like he is a butcher which he is not in my opinion.
