A definition quite apropos to Russia.

Potemkin was Russian. He built his "villages"--which were like the fake facades in the American West--so officials visiting the region he governed would be impressed. Catherine the Great, his lover, was loved it. (Though historians now say he didn't go as far as was alleged by some.)

Oddly enough, he's buried in Ukraine.
