Well, well, well!!
Looks who's becoming high tech! Posting graphics now, too.

Thank Torvecian. Your point is well taken regarding number of parts and weight. Then think of all the logistics behind those 800+ parts, ordering and inventorying them, the service inventory to manage all those trannies in the field, the labor or machine time to manufacture, etc....

Toyota v Torvec

I have no axe to grind on behalf of Toyota, far from it after they dropped the Torotrak IVT :( The point I was illustrating was just what such as Toyota are planning. Despite the obvious and frequently pointed out advantages of the Torvec IVT, especially in this board, it is very difficult to convince Big Auto to adopt such a radically new technology.

Toyota seem prepared to go all the way to an 8 speed auto which must be extremely complex to make and service. The big auto companies are terrified of making a mistake so adopting something quite new, however much better it looks, really worries them and they don't want to be the first to try it, unless someone really forces them to do so.

Even so they still do make mistakes, witness the recent recalls by Toyota caused by faulty steering and suspension. You would think that they could get stuff like that right in this day and age wouldn't you?

For Torvec to influence a big auto company it is like a mouse trying to move an elephant.

Still remember the Frank Sinatra song, High Hopes :-

Just what makes that little old ant
Try to move a rubber tree plant
Anyone knows an ant, can't
move a rubber tree plant

But he's got high hopes
High apple pie in the sky hopes
So any time you're feeling down
and you're feeling low
just remember that ant

Whoops there goes another rubber tree plant
