I agree that the use of the word soon has been overused. However, in defense of those using it I ge the big picture behind it.
Soon as in we know the steps to complete the process are in the works. The opposite would be waiting for the process to be initiated.

I look at like this.
Want to buy a car -
Steps.
1. Figure out a budget
2. Pick multiple vehicles
3. Cross reference price, packages, warranties, trims, etc. and narrow it down to 2 or 3.
4. Test drive
5. Make a decision
6. Go to dealership

Soon would be like being at step 5 already while step 6 would be an uplist. Being at step 1 or 2 is not soon.
