From the 2006 RSA conference
"It is exciting to see Wave Systems releasing an implementation of the Platform Trust Services (PTS) standard from the TCG, since PTS is an essential piece of the trusted computing ecosystem," said Dr. Thomas Hardjono, co-chair of the TCG Infrastructure Working Group. "The PTS is designed to work on a broad range of platforms, including the PC-Client platform, Server platform, Mobile Phone platform, and the Network platform. Wave has clearly shown their leadership in the trusted computing technology space."
Note HRDJONO's use of words. Not important, not significant, not critical, but essential. Now maybe he is exaggerating, but essential usually refers to something which is required to make something else work.
I'm a generalist and NEVER claim to understand the details of the technology at the level of Awk, SL, Doma, Ramsey, and the other people I'm neglecting here. I do know that the Infineon discussion yesterday was too much trees and not enough forest. Seems to me Trusted Computing is helped by Infineon, but Infineon is not essential to Trusted Computing. Here the current head of the Infrastructure Working Group is saying Wave is ESSENTIAL to trusted computing. At the same time Enderle and Kay are saying that TC adoption iscritical to improved security.
Let's see what kinds of things start being understood about TC, NAC, and managing keys by the tech press after the RSA conference and the expected, required adoption of FDEs and TPMs by the Federal government in March.
