The idea of a token reducing carbon emissions is interesting and admirable but pretty much impossible. Kind of like electric cars will reduce emissions. Until we stop using fossil fuels to make energy electric cars will indirectly be just as big of polluters as what we have now.

Then theres China. Having spent a lot of time there, I can tell you for a fact it will be decades if not longer before they stop burning coal for everything. almost every huge high rise apartment building has a coal fired boiler in the basement. Most towns have several coal fired power plants scattered around the city. None of them are efficient and spew smoke into the air 24/7. Many days you can taste the coal smoke and when the temperature inversions are going you can cut it with a knife. My last visit there the day we landed the pollution was at 500 on their scale. Thats as high as it goes. when we walked outside the airport, you couldn't even see the street and immediately you couldn't breath or open your eyes.

So until China cleans up it's act, no carbon token will even put a small dent in cleaning up carbon.
