Feel the same way, doesn't make a ton of sense based on the action here. All I can think is;

1) MM's continue to be heavily short and unable to settle due to lack of retail shares for sale and lack of new shares hitting the market, so additional institutional MM's brought in to assist which they typically due when as you say a high volume spike.

2) They are seeing retail shares for sale at higher prices and are trying to short at lower prices to stall the action and wear down retail sellers to get them to dump lower into the bid.
