I have had Windows Update disabled in Services for years without it getting reset...
I'm still running Win 7 which might be why...MS may have "fixed that issue" with Win 8 or Win 10.

Although I don't get Windows Updates, Microsoft still finds a way to download certain updates anyway...
AND those cannot be uninstalled, changed, deleted or disabled.

No, I left it alone overnight and it was still stuck the next morning. So I powered it down manually and then stuck a pin through the hole in the back for about 30 seconds to disconnect the battery for a while.

When I repowered it, it automatically restored to a previous recovery point. So I got lucky that time.

Thinking hard about putting Linux on that machine...
