Not my area of expertise, but someone once explained that those numbers are intraday buys/sells from MMs providing liquidity to the market, and typically the shorts are covered EOD. I'm not naive enough to think there aren't a lot of games being played, but again I would think there are many other names out there for the MMs to short with less risk of being burned.
