It takes half the power to embed the data into the laser, in addition to less power to flinch it can also do away with the driver which produces heat which requires cooling. It all adds up, hard to believe with everyone worried about the carbon footprint how the cryptos are embraced by the same crowd and ignore the power being sucked up by it.

I believe that is energy savings for the interface exchange from fiber optics (photons) to EC (chips...electrons) transmission. At the point of entry into the Data Center. Not sure what that particular energy % is of the overall energy a DC consumes. I would love to know that number for relevance. Nonetheless, 2-3x higher transmission speed is an entirely different bonus of reducing a BIG bottleneck area for growing scales of cloud computing, AI, metaverse, etc.
