I wish this were wrong but when if it happens it will get excused as necessary and normalized though right now the idea is dismissed as just glass half empty thinking.

The one has absolutely nothing to do with the other and so it can’t serve the purpose you suggest in your worst light hypothetical. It will be a useful event for approval, no doubt, but it’s a separate track if events and has nothing to do with TLD. Therefore the anticipation will continue, which can’t be fully countered as you suggest, with distractions. Distractions work with false light narratives, but not with real and concrete events that companies need to accomplish to survive and succeed.
