A good question is whether there are levels of ETS so you can get something for free and have an option to upgrade. That model is used by some companies but I am not sure how successful it is - it is a person by person decision. The second aspect is whether whatever you have needs updating which is another model used by some vendors and I suspect that is very successful. So you get it free but then subscribe in order to stay current. Now it might work best for viruses which are dynamic but maybe ETS free for year and then you pay something. Once you are using it and your data is stored that way, I suspect most people would relicense for a fee. Particualrly if that is the way lots of software is being sold. Finally it is clear that Microsoft's OS will have some functionality in this area but who knows how much.
I realize that there may be a layer of network management across all of these layers.
