That is really the truth of it. A few years ago- the last time we had over 100*, I told Jay I was going to a hotel until the heat left. He bought a big portable AC unit that would keep part of the upstairs reasonable. This year he bought me a small window unit for my bedroom. It works pretty well.
We really need to put in central air, but our gas furnace is getting older so we will wait until we need to replace it anyway and do a combo.
