I saw that report in Forbes and I was surprised by the little emphasis placed on speed of the CDMA TREO600 and the equal offsetting points for the GSM version of TREO600 which are battery life and global roaming.

The Forbes article didn't even mention the price of data use on Treo 600. I.e. unlimited use on Sprint for no extra charge beyond the $10-15 for Vision. Most prices I have seen for Cingular and ATT seem to be either per meg charges or higher up front fees. This is a big deal and is linked to the greather efficiency of the CDMA system. It is not something to be just ignored as not something the consumer doesn't see.

One odd thing is that the GSM Treo 600 isn't out yet, so we really don't know if the alleged battery life claim is just because the CDMA was tested distant from a tower and the GSM phone was right next to one. I will be more inclined to believe this once we have real world apples to apples tests.

I have been looking for examples such as the one you posted about the treo 600 vs the Ericsson P800. I don't know much about the latter and its processor etc. It will be interesting to see something like a test of treo 600 GSM vs CDMA in terms of downloading web pages. Also tests of speed when linked by USB to computer should also be included and discussed. K3

The coolest test would be an upload test

Vision would make GPRS look like a 9600 baud modem, and it would because GPRS providers usually only allocate 1 9.6kbps slot for upload.
