Regarding your link to "Alaska Native corporation to protect its land, dealing blow to massive gold mine project" there are certainly many route options.

The priority is to actually use the "Least environmentally damaging alternative" (LEDA) but just because any one of the many routes becomes unavailable for any reason, that does not as the 'Washington Post article alleges, by any means, "...make it difficult for backers of a massive open-pit gold and copper mine to carry out their project" as there are several options available.

However, in my personal opinion, this proposed action, allegedly committed in the public interest, instead has the potential opposite effect; if a less favorable route is forced.

So many of these type of selfish NIMBY (not in my backyard) attempted actions have the precise opposite effect from what is advertised.

I say us responsible and honest individuals that spot these misdeeds perpetrated in the name of fish, air, or whatever; must call them out aggressively. Think:

No copper mining = no electricity, wind or solar energy, phones, etc.
No Rhenium mining = no air defense, jet engines
No N American mining = mines just move to unregulated locales
No development = no hunting, no fishing, no hiking
No pipelines = lots of rail disasters, new tracks, high cost fuels

You get the idea. Help spread the truth.

I think tootalljones is right, moving to Switzerland may help us to stay sane.

So many Americans who should have learned to think while in school and maturing are "So Easily deceived and misled."

Our current educational system has failed a lot of people.

I guess I was one of the lucky ones who got something out of my education, even if the instructors/teachers were sometimes lacking in knowledge and teaching skills.

I hope America can survive what is coming, other countries outside of Switzerland and maybe Finland may survive this RESET of Common Sense and Rational Thinking, since they have a pretty rigorous educational system and produce some very bright people.

One of my best friends came from Finland, went to school in Sweden, Switzerland and here in the US with me. She spoke multiple languages. Her English was better than mine. She was one of smartest people I have ever known. While in Switzerland some of her class mates gave her a Swiss Army knife which she prized that possession.

I've forgotten a lot of what I studied and cannot speak or read much of any of the languages I've studied. My calculus is long gone and I have to depend on a calculator to do simple math anymore and depend on my watch to find out the day's date.

But I can still spot stupidity a mile away.
