jb92106........MM are tasked with keeping a fair and orderly market, and post the bid and ask prices for the public.....when you see the bid price, it is the price at which the MM will buy your shares, or shares for sale at that price, even if there are no shares to sell... they, the MM will go short to fill your order posted at the ask price....so, with heavy influx of buy orders, the MM will fill your order by going short...at some point when the volume dries up, he will lower there bid price at which he will buy shares in the market place to square his short position...this is why you see the ups and downs in the prices of stock each day in the marketplace....remember,the stock market is a venue for MM to sell shares to the public, and it is a "merchandizing" vehicle... this is how they keep those mansions in the "Hamptons"
