When I’m buying a large block of shares, I always place my order at or just above the bid. All transactions at the bid are reflected as sells even though I’m buying. It is just assumed for analysis purposes that a mm is at the bid buying and at the ask selling. Thus retail buys typically occur at the ask and sells at the bid. If you are patient you place limit orders where you want them.
