This accident of a high speed tesla hitting a tree was not during a solar storm but just after. On February 22nd there was geomagnetic unrest. On February 24th the sun launched a CME that missed earth.

According to reports, the Model S swerved through three lanes of traffic before it ventured into the median. That's when the vehicle struck several trees and came to a stop before catching fire.

A stream of solar wind is buffeting Earth's magnetic field, and this is causing geomagnetic unrest around the poles. First contact with the gaseous material on Feb. 21st produced a "crazy outburst" of auroras over Alaska. More high-latitude auroras are possible on Feb. 22nd as solar wind speeds approach 500 km/s

Geomagnetic activity can go on for days after such events.
