I'll take my chances. Living in constant fear is what brought us MAGA world and I personally don't give a rats ass if someone is spying on my hallway. I most likely will not even download the app but I just wanted a new thermostat and for 11 bucks it was an easy sell.

They can be programmed manually too.

My bread and butter for the last few years was the electronic lock business where your cell phone becomes your room key so I know a little about what can or can't happen.

oh, and lastly, if you're going to quote me from another board please be kind enough to link to the post in the future.

now that I have a break, here is the post you took out of context for whatever reason.

I didn't say anything about light bulbs or appliances or any other such nonsense that I definitely don't need. A regular programmable thermostat is normally 50 dollars or more so I thought it was a bargain.

and google isn't "giving them away", it's the electric company that is offering the rebate. I have a google phone, should I throw that away too?

Even lightbulbs can be hacked. No reason in the world for a light bulb to be internet accessible, let alone a smart thermostat with full wifi access. It doesn't matter if they are doing anything with the data or not. The fact is the technology is there,

No not my light bulbs that are energy efficient.

I have cut my utility bill by a 3rd with programmable lights and a thermostat.
