Your buddy is an investment banker not a biotech investor. An investment banker looks to make money whether the company goes well or fails. He does not generally delve into the science deeply.
His point about any breakthrough will come from BP demonstrates his lack of understanding. True that many drugs that make it to the market come from BP. What he seems to be missing is that many of those drugs were developed by start up biotechs and then bought out by BP to be taken to market.
Anavex has chosen not to pursue that path. That does not negate the fact that most innovations come from start up biotechs like ANAVEX.
