Yes. If your sale price is “close” they typically won’t borrow them because it could get called and they’d have to do an unplanned trade. If your sale price is far from the current price, then the risk to being called is smaller. The only way to ensure your shares aren’t loaned out (or the shares are sold at your ask price) is for you to contact your broker where the shares are held and ask them to prohibit it. Some brokerages do, some don’t.
