In part I believe you are right. I am not sure I ever saw published the word maze, but coverage from china did set up the idea of an ecosystem being set up with multiple participating companies. I.e. Maze

The word "maze" has always confused me. It sounds like something that might be a mistranslation of a word that actually fits.

A maze is a purposely confusing set of blocked hallways and switchbacks. It only makes sense if Li is finding his way through the maze. But then he wouldn't be building a maze he would be navigating it.
