I don’t disagree with thinking that way.

What alloy are Tesla and other car companies using now?

How much more expensive will it be?

Tough questions to answer.

actually the synthetic zirconium method is much cheaper than mining zirconium and air is free so bmg (lqmt foam) is perfect for massive scale/potential of ev market and its already being pioneered by lugee/lk see third link.

lqmt foam is upto 90% air and can be formed by rolling/extrusion/diecasting etc and soon 100,000 tons of the stuff will be available

now that synthetic zirconium is being used for the raw material production/supply and the tonnage will only grow going forward both of these points will further lower the cost.

The formation of amorphous porous bodies and in particular to a method of manufacturing such bodies from amorphous particulate materials. The method allows for the control of the volume fraction as well as the spatial and size distribution of gas-formed pores by control of the size distribution of the powder particulates. The method allows for the production of precursors of unlimited size, and because the softened state of the amorphous metals used in the method possesses visco-plastic properties, higher plastic deformations can be attained during consolidation as well as during expansion.

21. The method according to claim 17 wherein compacting is performed by a method selected from the group consisting of: hot pressing, hot extrusion, hot forging, hot rolling and dyna-packing.

You know JoTu is correct.

A little DD always cuts through foggy and incorrect assumptions about Liquidmetal!
