You may be confusing Bummer with a bum. Bummer is an unfortunate occurrence, like if it rains and it was supposed to be sunny and you had plans to go out on a boat- that’s a bummer. A bum is a derogatory term for a bad person, untrustworthy, sometimes a drunk/homeless person. Very different terms.
