Just speaking for myself, I restrict myself from buying or selling when I'm negotiating anything material. I've had my communication and trading records inspected by the SEC a few times with zero infractions/concerns identified.
Honestly, I don't think warrant extension discussions are anywhere close to non-public information -- since we can all read about here -- but still, life is too short.
