From the partial list of dark/defunct/shell stocks the crude addition of combined volumes is approximately 204 billion shares traded in the last 8 days. That's roughly 1/5th of a trillion shares. As you noted, there were many more OTC stocks with billions in trading volumes.
Though to put in in perspective, there were weeks in which CMKX traded almost that much.
The SEC Commissioners had their most recent meeting yesterday, and their next meeting is next week. Next week's meeting was just scheduled at the conclusion of yesterday's meeting. 2 meetings in 2 weeks is not common, so something may be cooking. It was also announced today that the Director of the Division of Enforcement is leaving at the end of the year - often they will want to go out with a bang.
