"Blow-out results" from AMD. Good news for a company that really needs it. Most of the benefit from Flash....

Put my trading $$ back in based upon the IDC/Gartner stuff, and runup in options prices just before close......

What´s not to like?

At first glance:

net loss of $0.09 per share

A loss is still a loss.

The memory group operated at a loss in the third quarter.

Well, add to this the negative news that Windows Server 2003 for AMD64 is delayed to 2H/2004...

and that´s about it!!!

Now on to the good things :)

Yesterday´s PC shipment data gave an indication, but this is very impressive.

My initial projection was close but at the last moment I started to think closer to 900 mln.

They are cheating. They had to adjust for FASL acquisition before reporting this "88%" sales growth! Very AMD style :-(

Anyway, my pocket will be much thcker tomorrow :-)

I don't know if anyone noticed, but AMD is now breaking down operating income by division. This is the first quarter they have done this. Here is the link (you can get to this off the investor relations page):

This table can also be found at the end of the main results pdf.

This shows that computation products had revenue of $503M with an operating income of $19M, and flash products had revenue of $424M with an operating income of -$49M. I think this was also mentioned in the conference call, but I found this data to be very useful and interesting since I was assuming the flash products were making money.
