My widowed Mother (raised 10 kids and my father died at age 46 of cancer) would take us kids to JC Penney to buy our school clothes for the entire year -- including JC Penney brand name jeans. A few of my friends came from upper income homes and they wore Levi brand jeans to school. We were middle class and I worked delivering newspapers morning and afternoon 7 days a week on my bicycle. Being envious (and a bit ungrateful), I asked my Mother why I couldn't get expensive Levi jeans like my friends. She told me, 'Son, don't you worry about it. Take some pride in those JC Penney jeans. They wear just as well as Levi's and you'll learn not to be spoiled like your friends!'

And, let me tell you, we made those clothes last an entire year...or more! Great memories of shopping at JC Penney. Between working jobs growing up and shopping at JC Penney, my Mother taught me some good lessons about life that has served me well.
