Dalu6: Secure email

Steven Sprague has, over the years, many times mentioned the subject of “secure” email. In the earlier days it was mostly related to Embassy 2100 technology. However, in the 2Q03 – see below – he also mentioned "secure email" relative to TCG compliant secure platforms.

My guess: Yes, Wave will offer that…

We think we have a very compelling offering, including a full Microsoft cryptographic service provider; we have a very elegant solution for secure email; for a digital wallet; for a number of applications in managing what we call secure workgroups, where small groups of individuals can in essence instantaneously form secure communications. And we're showing that to a very broad range of customers, ranging from government at one end of the spectrum all the way to consumer opportunities at the other end of the spectrum.

I think we add to that things like that secure email and the ability to protect documents and auto fill forms on the web and protect your personal information and eliminate user IDs and passwords, are all the mechanics that are necessary to make the computer easier to use.

So, simple applications like just authentication. It now makes it possible for me to use a trusted computer to logon onto my email over a wireless connection at a Starbucks and feel completely confident that my user identity is secure over that relationship, and that I can go collect my email in a manner that even though I'm using a public network, I have a very secured communication back to my corporation. Or, if I have a website that has restricted access, for example it's my pricing list for my company's products, I can go there and log into that and know that only the people who are authenticated sales people are able to get into that service. We think there're a range of applications that are very useful, very important to business today, and applications that everyone uses everyday. So we think this is a technology that has really good legs under it and will be very broadly distributed
