What is the use of corrupt lawmakers set out to subvert the foundations of law itself? That's the original sin of this saga. Then there's been a lack of backbone displayed by the Judiciary while dealing with challenges to flawed legislation as opposed to being fooled IMO. Lack of backbone and/or corruption in the lower courts is the reason all parties find themselves on the Supreme Courts docket today. If we Law Schools can install backbones and de-corrupte their students then by all means send them back. Otherwise, it's time to pull the weeds ;-) :-)

"That's a blatant violation of the US Constitution under any analysis regardless of the application."

The Constitution isn't worth the paper it is written on if there is no enforcement. In my seven decades of life, enforcement of laws has always been skewed to favor white collar/high level violations of the laws of the land. Those in government have always thought they have a free pass or a permanent "get out of jail card" so what happened with the GSEs is of no surprise. What will surprise/shock all of my fellow shareholders is for justice to be served. I see no chance of that happening.
