Perhaps then they (statisticians) conducted a soft lock/interim analysis in August, and spent a small amount of alpha, to make the distance from a final lock to TLD shorter/easier — aka: “unblind, unveil, announce.” That is, if hard lock did not occur weeks ago.

Based on what? If they haven't data lock it is several weeks for the staticians and several weeks for the company to discuss. That is at least 6 weeks...and given the eternal delays, it could very well be 8-10 weeks.
