An ounce will last most people I know only a few weeks, maybe a month. So, if it takes 5-6 months to veg, flower, dry, and cure just to get a few weeks or even a few months worth, you still wouldn't be able to support your own usage without hiccups, unless you had a well tuned rhythm, which can take quite a bit of time to develop.
Not saying you specifically, but just the typical recreational user. IMO, it's similar to trying to only eat food that you grow yourself. Works out great in your head, but in real life, it's a tough way to live. If you can hit the ground running, and grow big yields every time, then it's all good, but losing a plant or a bunch of plants after putting a lot into them can make it not worth the time spent waiting.
Cannabis is multi-dimensional enough to fuel a variety of fast growing markets simultaneously. It's just going to take the Gov to release the correct regs so that supply chains and sales/marketing can establish the natural, unimpeded, synergistic, push and pull that every market requires to thrive.
